Tribes & Wildlife with Hornbill Festival
Explore the northeastern states of Nagaland and Assam to get a glimpse of wildlife, visiting Kaziranga National Park and Nameri National Park, along with a visit to the tribal villages of these states where you get to see the different tribes, their art and craft, the way they live and the sources they use to survive. Most interesting is to see their culture and tradition which they still have preserved and are proud of that. Day 01 | DELHI – GUWAHATI |
Morning transfer to Delhi airport to board the flight for Guwahati. Arrive Guwahati airport, meet our representative and transfer to the hotel for check-in. Afternoon, visit Kamakhya Temple – one of the oldest hindu temple dedicated to mother goddess Kamakhya. Also visit Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, an institution exhibiting heritage and culture of Assam, and Botanical Gardens. Overnight in Guwahati.
Day 02 | GUWAHATI - KAZIRANGA |
Morning after breakfast, drive to Kaziranga famous for Kaziranga National Park which is a UNESCO world heritage site and hosts two-third of the world’s great one-horned Rhinoceros. Arrive Kaziranga and check-in at your hotel/lodge. Afternoon, proceed for a safari to Kaziranga range, where apart from one-horned Rhinoceros you may also spot elephant, tiger, variety of deer, wild buffalo etc. Overnight at Kaziranga.
Day 03 | KAZIRANGA |
Morning, proceed for an elephant safari at Kaziranga National Park. After elephant safari come back to the hotel for lunch. Thereafter, proceed for Jeep Safari to explore the wildlife and birding. The park of Kaziranga is also decked with some special bird species like the Crested serpent eagle, Pella’s fishing eagle, Jungle fowl, Bengal florican etc. Overnight at Kaziranga.
Day 04 | KAZIRANGA |
This day again proceed for morning safari at Kaziranga National Park. After that return back to your hotel and post lunch, visit again for afternoon safari. Overnight in Kaziranga.
Day 05 | KAZIRANGA - KOHIMA |
After breakfast, drive to Kohima and on arrival check-in at the hotel. Kohima is the capital of Nagaland state and is the land of brave and daring, yet innocent and simple, Naga tribes. Overnight in Kohima. This picturesque town is known for its calmness and serenity, also exhibiting the tribal culture of the northeast. You can visit Kohima World War II cemetery and State Museum here. Overnight in Kohima.
Day 06 | KOHIMA |
This day, proceed for Hornbill Festival, also called as the ‘Festival of Festivals’. It is a celebration which is held every year from 1st till 10th of December at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama which is about 12 km from Kohima. In the festival, the rich culture of Nagaland is displayed in the form of songs, dances and food. Evening, return back to your hotel. Overnight in Kohima.
Day 07 | KOHIMA - MOKOCHUNG |
After breakfast, drive to Mokochung, the most important urban centre in Nagaland which is also the home of Ao Naga tribes. Athough, now most of the Aos have converted into Christians still they have preserved their old culture and tradition. Visit the village and witness the living style of these tribes. Overnight in Mokochung.
Day 08 | MOKOCHUNG - JORHAT |
Morning after breakfast, drive to Jorhat. Reach Jorhat and on arrival, check-in at the hotel. Jorhat is also known as the cultural capital of Assam as it is rich in cultural diversities. It was the last capital of Ahom Kingdom. Visit Cinnamora Tea Estate in Jorhat which is the oldest tea garden in Assam. Overnight at Jorhat.
Day 09 | JORHAT - MON |
Morning after breakfast, drive to Mon. Mon is known for Headhunting as it was practised in historic times. It is a land of the attractive Konyak Nagas, whose culture and traditions are an attraction by themselves for the visitors. Mon is now denoted by the name “Land of Anghs” which means, land ruled by kings. The Angh still enjoys considerable power over his people, acting as an autocrat and a democrat. Overnight in Mon.
Day 10 | MON |
This day visit the nearby villages of Mon. Visit Longwa village, the biggest village in Mon district which is on India-Myanmar border. In fact, the inhabitants of this village have dual citizenship- one of India and the other of Myanmar. The village is governed by the Angh (Chief) whose jurisdiction extends upto Myanmar and Arunachal Pradesh. Longwa has both Indian and Myanmarese schools. Evening, return back to Mon for overnight stay.
Day 11 | MON - JORHAT |
After breakfast, check-out from the hotel/lodge and drive to Jorhat. On arrival, check-in at the hotel. Rest of the day free to explore the surroundings. Overnight in Jorhat.
Day 12 | JORHAT - MAJULI |
Morning after breakfast, drive to Nimati Ghat, board the ferry and sail to Majuli. Reach Majuli Island after an approximate sailing of one and a half hour. Majuli is rich in both natural and cultural history depicting the Assamese civilization for past five hundred years. It has some unique Hindu monasteries where one can witness the dance performed by the monks of Uttarkamalabari Satra. Overnight in Majuli.
Day 13 | MAJULI |
This day explore the area of Majuli island. It has twenty-one traditional Satras of which many of them still provide training on dance, drama, music, art and craft. You can visit the villages, and witness the tribes there, their fields and homes to see how they do cultivation and weaving. Majuli is also a paradise for bird watchers, where one can find the variety of birds including the rare migratory birds also. Overnight in Majuli.
Day 14 | MAJULI - NAMERI |
After breakfast, take a ferry back to Nimati Ghat and then drive to Nameri known for the Nameri National Park, in the foothills of eastern Himalayas. The area of Nameri is criss-crossed by the river Jia – Bhoroli and its tributaries. You can also spot some monsoon lakes in the area. Visit Nameri National Park and witness the rich fauna and the lush green flora too, of the place. It is famous for its elephants, tigers, leopards, sambars etc. along with the bird watching. Overnight at Nameri.
Day 15 | NAMERI - GUWAHATI - DELHI |
Morning, check-out from the hotel and drive to Guwahati. On reaching Guwahati, you will be transferred to the airport to board the flight for Delhi to connect to your onward flight for the next destination.
